Special box

One week, we were set the homework task of writing about a special box. This was my effort.

Special box

There’s a sound at the door, a ding-dong. I hide in the kitchen; someone else will get it. There are voices, then the door closes. I peek round the door. A box has been brought in. The box is opened in the living room with much excitement.

Things are taken out of the box. I must examine them. The first thing is a long length of paper. It smells welcoming. It’s brown and it lies on the floor like a nest. I move into the hole in the middle and settle down, trying it out. I like it here. It’s cosy.

Something is taken out of the box. It’s peered at, but I can’t get to it until someone holds it out for me. I sniff it. It’s not very interesting.

The box is put on the floor. It’s brown, darker than the paper. It’s a nice sized box. I could probably fit in it. It might be even more cosy than the paper. The box flaps smell inviting. I cautiously try to step inside the box, but I can’t reach the bottom; I’ll have to jump.

Once inside, the smell is friendly. I walk in circles in the box. It feels firm but slightly squishy underfoot. I like this box a lot. I lie down in a circle and rest my head on my paw, purring.

My inspiration was my mam’s cat. My mam had a delivery and the cat was very interested in the packaging and the box. The picture shows said cat curled up asleep in said box. A special box indeed.
