Rules

The Octagon Tower of Ely Cathedral set against a blue sky with a single white wispy cloud. The white text 'Ely Writers' in the Give You Glory font is to the right of the tower.

Ely Writers has a few rules for its members to follow. The rules are to ensure that everyone has a good experience with Ely Writers.

  1. Be kind, courteous and respectful
We’re all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let’s treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness and tolerance are required.
  2. No hate speech or bullying
Make sure everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind isn’t allowed, and degrading comments about things such as race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated. Bullies and haters may be removed from the group.
  3. No promotions or spam
Give more to this group than you take. Self-promotion, spam and irrelevant links aren’t allowed.
We’re delighted that your writing has been published, and please do celebrate that with us, but please don’t add links to Amazon or anywhere else your book might be on sale: your post may be declined. Please ask admin for advice if in doubt.
  4. Respect everyone’s privacy
Being part of this group requires mutual trust. Authentic, expressive discussions make groups great, but may also be sensitive and private. What’s shared in the group should stay in the group.
This also means respecting other members’ private lives.
  5. No swearing
Inappropriate language in comments and posts will not be tolerated. Use will result in members being removed from the group. Swearing will be tolerated only as part of literary works and quotes.
  6. Be relevant
If you want to post about something that isn’t about writing, please find a relevant forum for it, because this isn’t it.
  7. No nasty images
Do not post graphic or disturbing photos, videos and other media in this group. Such posts will not be approved and/or will be deleted.
  8. Put your reply in the right place
If someone mentions you by name please respond directly to that person on the same post/comment for clarity. If the comment is inflammatory, please report it to the group admin.
  9. No grumbling about admin decisions
It is considered impolite to repost posts/comments that have been deleted and to draw attention to the fact that a group admin or another member has deleted your post/comment.

Posts and comments that break the rules will be removed by admin, and their authors may be suspended or banned.
