About Little Downham Village Hall
The Little Downham Community is very proud of its heritage and that this excellent facility belongs to all its inhabitants.
The original building was constructed in 1779 on the site of the former Guildhall as a boys’ school and workhouse. In 1886 the workhouse was altered became the girls’ school and it remained in use as a school until the 1960s. After standing empty for some time, the building was converted into the Village Hall, which opened in 1974 ‘for the use of the inhabitants of the Parish of Little Downham in the County of Cambridge and Isle of Ely … with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants’*.
