A shop selling baked goods, wines and cheeses, with a writer-friendly café.

Grain Culture started in November 2018 in Luca’s garage, one small 25l mixer, one bench and a couple of small ovens to supply the fortnightly Farmer’s Market. The following January wholesale deliveries started. Since then, quite a lot has changed. Grain Culture moved into a large commercial unit just outside of Ely and found a permanent home here, The Bake Shop – General Store on St. Mary’s Street. Starting as a pop-up a couple of days a week to becoming a fully formed store.

At the Bake Shop – General Store you can find Grain Culture bread and pastries here fresh every morning Tues-Sun, with some delicious coffee from The Brew Project.

Alongside the great coffee, bread and pastries, we are committed to finding the best and most interesting products out there. You can find anything from larder goods and hand-cut farmhouse cheeses from Neal’s Yard Dairy, to small batch beers and natural wines to take home with you. Come for the bread and pastries, stay for the coffee and go home with dinner.
