While having a fun time writing together last week, some of our members discovered they’re on goodreads. They had fun poking around each other’s books; then an idea was formed: why not create an Ely Writers goodreads group?
So that’s what we’ve done. It was an easy process to create the group, although it could only be done on an actual computer which was a bit inconvenient.
Goodreads is a place to record the books you’ve read, the books you want to read and the books you’re reading now. What’s more, you can share all this with your friends, and you can see what they’re reading – maybe you’ll find out that you’d like to borrow a book they’ve just finished!
Considering that writers are told to read a lot and write a lot
1:164, goodreads seems like a great place to record all your thoughts about the books we read and find ideas for other books to read, particularly those that might be outside of our genre.
We’re hoping to share what we’re reading, and find out what books interest the group as a whole. We’ve already added the books listed on our resources page.
We want to share books that we can learn from, whether they’re fiction or non-fiction, specifically about writing or examples of writing. We’ve added a couple of discussion topics to get the ball rolling.
If you’re an Ely Writer and you want to join our goodreads group, you’ll need to sign up to goodreads first. When and if you are a member of goodreads, all you have to do is request an invitation to the group. We’re a private group, so all requests must be approved by a moderator; we’ll do this as soon as possible. Also look out for invitation links in our private chats.
We aren’t very familiar with goodreads groups; I hope we’re not off to a rocky start, but we’re excited about where this new venture will take us in the future!
